Building Transformational Relationships

“I have worked with Levin for nearly ten years in a residential setting that has a focus on evidence-based treatment.  He is highly skilled at building programs and helping systems shift their thinking. He has deep knowledge of how to facilitate program design and guide implementation.  I have watched him provide consultation on the national platform. He coached states as they designed their response to addiction treatment.  He uses his personal skills to shift entrenched systems. He is a highly trained therapist with high expertise in DBT and ACT.  He is creative and calm and willing to take on very difficult problems.  I would work with Levin on any assignment gladly!”

As the Director of Counseling at Deerfield Academy, I had the chance to supervise Mr. Schwartz’s clinical work. He engaged with high school aged boarding school students, supporting them through a diverse range of presenting problems. Operating primarily from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model, I watched him work with incredible sensitivity. He skillfully helped each young person deepen their degree of awareness and insight. He developed skills for coping with the thoughts, feelings, and situations that were bringing them into treatment. Mr. Schwartz has a talent for assessment. He identifies systemic and contextual factors that reinforce problematic narratives and behaviors. He achieves this while also making the person he’s sitting with feel attended to and taken care of.

“The level of need for services often surpasses the capacity that organizations have to provide programming, let alone devote time for intentional planning, coordination, and monitoring. Levin has years of experience and deep insight into what it takes to develop, implement, and sustain evidence-based programming in challenging treatment environments. He also has the expertise to help organizations set up and implement programs that reflect the latest research and best practices across the field. Finally, Levin approaches all of his work with a thoughtful, person-centered, and trauma-informed perspective, supporting the development of programs and services that lead to optimal outcomes, fiscal savings, and healthier communities. I highly recommend him to any community-based organization or criminal legal agency looking to begin, improve, or sustain mental health or substance use disorder treatment services.”

Levin Schwartz has played one of the most instrumental roles at FCSO in developing what has become a national demonstration model for how to use modern, evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment. He is a leader within our agency and our community…It is my opinion that Levin Schwartz’s commitment to advancing the field of social work makes him a most desirable candidate.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Levin through a grant opportunity. I have consistently admired his dedication, insight, and genuine compassion as a professional. His work ethic is unmatched— he brings a level of creativity and a strong sense of purpose to every project. What sets Levin apart is his authentic commitment to helping others. He is dedicated not just on the micro level through direct service. He also impacts mezzo and macro levels through systems change, advocacy, and collaborative program development. His deep understanding of corrections treatment is profound. This includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). His knowledge of the broader behavioral health landscape positions him as a go-to resource. He offers both clinical and programmatic insight. He brings heart and humanity into every interaction. This makes him a trusted colleague. He is also an inspiring partner in this work.

Levin clearly stands out from the pack. Without question, he has brought more to our unit and has had a bigger impact on our program than any other social worker I have worked with thus far. I am confident that he will have a similar impact on any program he’s involved in. I urge you to give him your most serious consideration.

Levin has a thoughtful, open, and compassionate approach and brings this approach to his clinical work. He also uses it in his manner of relating to everyone, including staff and patients alike. I have particularly enjoyed responding to his thoughtful questions as they have often inspired me to examine various aspects of my theoretical model more closely. Frankly, it’s been a delight to see a clinician so actively work on developing their theoretical model. I think this is essential for anyone aspiring to be a great clinician. It is something I look for in applicants to our APA-accredited Predoctoral Psychology Program.

I am confident that Levin would make a valuable and immediate contribution to your program.  Levin is among the very best colleagues I have known and with whom I have worked.  He is easy to talk with and possesses a depth of understanding of people.  Levin is thoughtful, kind, and helpful.  He respects cultural, individual, learning, and role differences in every setting he enters. He treats people with dignity and respect.  He is an incredibly interesting, self-motivated, and dear colleague. His strength of commitment to clinical work and teaching is robust. His professionalism and exceptional skills will surely play an important role in making a meaningful difference in client’s lives.

In addition, Levin understands important scientific concepts and methods of scientific inquiry to examine human behavior. His critical thinking and writing demonstrated during our work together show his research abilities. His scholarly activity reflects his collaboration with colleagues and organizations.

Levin offers outstanding organizational skills. These skills have proven to be a critical asset in meeting the challenges of delivering clinical care, treatment, and services.  These skills, along with his dedication, would enable Levin to make a positive impact at your institution. His tireless work ethic contributes to this capability. I strongly urge you give Levin priority consideration

I have been working with Levin since 2014.   He has an outstanding work ethic, collaborating with staff and providing deliverables for many projects he was working on. The vast majority of new project implantation at FCSO was led by Levin.  He is a hard worker and a strong leader. He collaborates well across disciplines, including: uniformed staff, behavioral health and case management, reentry, medical, and community-based agencies.

Debra McLaughlin, Director, Opioid Task Force of Franklin County

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Levin since 2017. From the start of our work together, I’ve been consistently impressed by his dedication to clients and his effectiveness as a team member. He brings a deep understanding of social work principles, applying them with both compassion and professionalism. Levin excels at fostering collaboration, engaging colleagues to share insights, tackle complex challenges, and pursue shared goals. His exceptional communication skills make him a vital contributor to partnership-building, particularly at the intersection of addiction and trauma. He presents complex data with empathy, often motivating policymakers and thought leaders to act. I have always valued his ability to listen deeply, distill diverse perspectives into common themes, and forge connections among unlikely allies to improve health outcomes for individuals, especially those affected by trauma.”
